What to do with grass clippings?

Every gardener will certainly have already experienced that grass clippings by themselves hardly rot down. An abundance of grass clippings in the compost means that it forms an airtight, slimy mess that also smells. Increase air permeability by mixing in two parts of grass clippings with one part of shredded woody material, bark mulch or dry leaves. This quickly leads to rich compost within a short space of time.

Turning the compost

Did nothing much happen to your compost in winter? Now is the best time to liven up your compost so that the organic waste can quickly rot down. Turn over the compost now so that the dry and damper materials in the compost are thoroughly mixed. By adding Organic Compost Accelerator to the material, the compost heats up to between 50°C - 60°C within a few days. The rotting process advances quickly and the compost sinks by about 1/3 within a few weeks. A particularly good and clean way of composting is to use the Thermal Compost Bin "Neudorff DuoTherm" 530 l. The double-walled construction creates the optimal temperatures and humidity conditions for composting.
