July
Tackle caterpillars
Caterpillars can do a lot of damage to your vegetable plants now. Protect your plants beforehand by covering the crops straight after planting or sowing with a pest protection net. This prevents pests from getting to the plants.
Aphids are still active
Aphids can multiply extremely quickly during the summer months. This is because they do not lay eggs during this time but give birth to living young so that a small colony can quickly spread into a massive infestation. The use of BugFree Bug and Larvae Killer Concentrate+ can help here. Observe a waiting period of three days.
Protect cucumbers against powdery mildew
Especially in dry weather from mid-July, cucumbers are particularly susceptible to powdery mildew and should be regularly checked for any occurrence.
The best way to protect against powdery or downy mildew on cucumbers is to spray with a liquid concentrate against fungal diseases of vegetables. Evenly spray the crops at the first sign of an infestation. Ask at your garden centre for a suitable product.
Feed heavy feeders again
Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, courgettes and pumpkins need feeding again with Organic Multipurpose Plant Food. This gives them sufficient nutrients so they can form aroma-rich fruit. Water regularly using Organic Tomato Feed.
